Valentines Day Activity A Day Countdown Calendar

Today I'm sharing with you my Valentines Activity A Day Countdown Calendar. I'm super excited about this one because I actually made it last Valentines day and it's the first one I've ever made. This year I've definitely upped my countdown calendar game making it prettier, more versatile, bigger and better than previous one and I'm so excited to finally share it with you.

I've made 12 pages of activity cards with 70 Montesorri inspired activities. Activities encourage imagination and teach skills in math, music, language arts, geography, science and art. They also include fun games to teach fine motor and gross motor skills and acts of service that can be done as a family. All activities require little prep work and can be done with things you already have at home or can acquire easily and on a budget. Whether you have a toddler or a teenager and are looking for activities at home or in the classroom there is something for everyone!

To make your own calendar you will need the following materials:

-15 regular sized envelopes (3 5/8 x 6 ½ inch)
-30 small pieces of ribbon
-5 pieces of A4 sized white paper for the labels
-12 pieces of A4 sized white paper for the cards
-Glue Stick
-6-8 pieces of scrapbook paper or wrapping paper as desired
-Hole Punch
-Laminator (optional)

To assemble:
1.    Lick shut your envelopes and then cut into halves.
2.    Cut scrapbook or wrapping paper to fit the front of each envelope half. Glue to the front of the envelope making sure the open end of the envelope is facing up.
3.    Use a scrapbook punch or trace a small round object to cut out a hole in the front of each envelope.
4.    Print out the template onto cardstock paper.
5.    Cut out the 30 numbers and glue a number to each envelope.
6.    Laminate finished envelopes if desired.
7.    Cut out the activity cards. Laminate if desired.
8.    Punch a small hole into the top of each card and tie a ribbon. Place 1 card into each envelope.

I usually hang our calendars on a wall but since we're packing up house and preparing to go to Canada at the end of the month I've punched a hole at the top corner of each envelope and will secure it with a 2" ring so it's compact enough to put in my suitcase and move with us. That of course will have to wait until I can find the safe place in which I put it. Don't you just hate when that happens?!

The number labels are big enough that you can cut them out, laminate and secure to a muffin tin with double sided tape for a fun countdown calendar with room for candy or small toys.

But if you already have a calendar then why not print off the activity cards and add them to your pre-existing Valentines countdown calendar?!

This year we're only doing 12 days because with the move that's all we'll have time for but the rest of the calendar is ready to go for the years to come. Here is the final product:

How awesome does it look? I love the new labels I've created and my little man is so excited about it. He can't stop touching it and telling me how pretty and fun and pink it is. Definitely worth all the effort as I'm sure it will be used for many years in the future.

As a special thank you for supporting me through my first year of blogging I'm going to be hosting a giveaway. To win your own free copy you need to become a Facebook friend and like this post on Facebook. That's it. I'll be picking 3 lucky winners to email the file to on Monday January 17th, 2011. Hope to see you there! This giveaway is now closed.

So what do you think? I love inspiring people and would be keen on seeing any countdown calendars that you create using my ideas. But of course, if your short on time I'll be selling the pdf copy in my Etsy shop until Valentines day so you can purchase one there.

Have a great day and tons of fun celebrating Valentines Day this year!
